🚨 Community Safety Alert: Vapes Containing “Spice” đźš¨

We are issuing an urgent warning to parents, carers, and the wider community about a concerning rise in incidents involving young people using vapes that contain “Spice”, a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid.

These vapes may look like ordinary e-cigarettes, but they are being laced with substances that can cause severe health effects — including hallucinations, paranoia, seizures, and unconsciousness. Some children have required emergency medical treatment.

Spice is not safe. It is illegal and unpredictable. When consumed through vaping, its effects can be even more rapid and harmful.

What You Can Do:

  • Talk to your children about the dangers of vaping unknown substances.
  • Be alert for signs of drug use: sudden mood changes, secrecy, unfamiliar vape devices, or unusual behaviour.
  • If you suspect a vape may contain illegal substances, do not ignore it. Please contact the police or your child’s school.
  •

    Where to Get Help:

  • Local Drug and Alcohol Services: Plymouth substance misuse service 0800 0274431 YoungMinds (Mental Health Support): www.youngminds.org.uk
  • Talk to Frank (Drugs Advice): 0300 123 6600 or www.talktofrank.com
  • Your GP or school safeguarding team can also help guide next steps.
  •

We are working closely with schools, youth services, and health professionals to keep our young people safe. If you have any information about the distribution of these dangerous vapes, please report it confidentially via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or contact the police directly on 101 or via email

Let’s work together to protect our children and prevent harm.

    Stay safe,
